    Narciso Gallardo Fernandez, 30, gunned down Erick Velasquez shortly
    after waving and shooting at a surveillance camera, according to authorities.

    The shocking moment captured on camera comes amid warnings for
    the potential of violence inspired by the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

    Police Chief Gino Chiaramonte said detectives are investigating the motive of the latest
    shooting but have not yet found links between the suspect or Thompson’s
    alleged killer, Luigi Mangione.

    The chaos unfolded Monday night in the Fresno suburb of Madera, about 240 miles north of Los Angeles.
    Velasquez called 911 moments before the gunman began firing, with the dispatcher hearing gunshots
    over the phone.

    Police arrived to find Velazquez with a gunshot wound
    inside the Walgreens, where he was pronounced dead.
    Customers took shelter hiding inside the pharmacy as Fernandez went
    to his car to reload, according to police.

    Fernandez allegedly surrendered when confronted by officers in the store’s parking lot.

    ‘We do know he has a general disdain or grudge against
    pharmacies, large-scale pharmacies,’ Chiaramonte told local ABC
    affiliate, KFSN-TV .

    Disturbing surveillance camera footage revealed the moment Narciso Gallardo Fernandez opened fire at a Walgreens and killed employee and father Erick Velasquez

    The public drew comparisons between Fernandez’s alleged actions
    and the infamous case of Luigi Mangione, who was also allegedly
    seen with a gun on a surveillance camera 

    Police said that Fernandez drove over 80 miles to target that
    Walgreens location and fired at least five shots while inside.

    Investigators believe that the disturbing footage of Fernandez waving his gun at the
    camera happened while Velazquez attempted to call 911.

    In the wake of Velazquez death his family has set up a GoFundMe account,
    which has currently raised over $25,000. The description in the
    fundraiser referred to the Walgreens employee as a ‘truly loving husband
    , father , son , brother and friend.’

    His family said that he loved to travel, hike,
    play sports, and spend time with his two young children.

    ‘He would always encourage us to live life to the fullest
    just like he did .Erick will truly be missed by his family and his Walgreens family,
    ‘ the description continued.

    A frequent customer at the pharmacy told KFSN that Velazquez was a valued member of the
    community and his shocking death was scary for all those in Madera.

    ‘It’s really scary because he (drove) to come kill the boy, and it’s really scary,’ Isabel Hernandez told the outlet.

    Police responded to the Walgreens and found Fernandez with a gun in the parking lot and Velazquez inside with a gunshot wound 

    Fernandez was booked into jail on homicide charges after telling investigators that he had a
    ‘disdain’ for pharmacies 

    The public accused Mangione of inspiring copycat killers,
    although Madera Police Chief Gino Chiaramonte said he didn’t believe there were any connections between the two cases 

    ‘It’s very, very sad for the community,’ she added.

    Observers have drawn comparisons between Fernandez’s case and Mangione’s alleged
    slaying of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in broad daylight.

    ‘Walgreens employee k*lled in a Luigi-style ambush in California
    by a man with a grudge against big pharmacies,’ one social media user wrote on X.

    ‘This tragedy was a copycat inevitability, as wannabe vigilantes saw their opportunity to be
    similarly glorified as «martyrs,»‘ another comment agreed.

    However, Chief Chiaramonte clarified that
    detectives are still investigating a motive and police haven’t found a connection between Fernandez and Mangione.

    He added that he didn’t see Fernandez’s alleged
    actions as inspired by the infamous Thompson case.

    Velasquez was not a pharmacist at the store and the pharmacy was closed at the
    time of the shooting.

    News of the California shooting came as Attorney General Pam
    Bondi directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Mangione .

    ‘Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson — an innocent man and father of two young children — was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America,’ Bondi wrote in a statement.

    ‘After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors
    to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and
    Make America Safe Again.’

    Velasquez was a father and an employee at the local Walgreens.
    He was remembered as a loving father, husband, brother, and friend 

    There were no other injuries in the Walgreens shooting and police are still investigating a motive

    Mangione’s lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, called the move ‘political’
    and accused the federal government of, ‘defending the broken, immoral,
    and murderous healthcare industry that continues to terrorize the American people.’

    Fernandez has been booked into jail for homicide, but he hasn’t
    yet been formally charged or appeared in court. 

    District Attorney Sally Moreno confirmed that Fernandez would
    be arraigned on murder charges and the investigation is ongoing. 

    Lieutenant Mark Adams with the Madera Police Department told DailyMail.com
    that there are no new updates on the case.
